Lady + Jeff

“I feel like I’ve known you my whole life.”

When I book a wedding, I like to meet the couple far in advance of their big day. I like to get to know their quirks, their likes, their dislikes. From a practical angle, I like to find their good side, talk about what they want from their photographer, set any expectations. I want to show up at their wedding as an old friend who happens to be good behind a lens. I want them to feel comfortable with me documenting such a joyous occasion.

The day of Lady and Jeff’s wedding was the day that I met them. This was the first time that I hadn’t met with  couple beforehand. Living in Los Angeles but booking bi-coastal has changed the ways that I am able to connect with clients. But as I started interacting with them, snapping away at Lady getting her hair done, and Jeff putting on his bowtie, I felt connected to them. I felt like I had known them a far longer than an afternoon. And then Lady said to me, “I feel like I’ve known you my whole life.”

At the reception,  guests came up to me and asked how long I’d known the couple. I giggled, “A while.”

Lady and Jeff  were married in Brooklyn Bridge park surrounded by family and old friends – and one new-old friend.
